LUKAS Cracking Varnish 1 and Cracking Varnish 2 combine to give surfaces an authentic antique appearance through a craquelé effect. This effect is created by a chemical reaction that produces natural-looking cracks, mimicking the patterns formed by ageing. The varnishes can be applied to various surfaces including cardboard, wood, and artworks painted with Acrylic, alkyd, or Oil paints.

To achieve the effect, apply a uniform coat of Cracking Varnish 1 and wait 1.5 to 4 hours, depending on the desired crack size. The varnish should feel moist but not tacky. Then apply a thin coat of Cracking Varnish 2 in the opposite direction and leave to dry for 3 to 4 hours for fine cracks. Using Cracking Varnish 2 with two different Acrylic colours allows for stunning bicoloured craquelé effects.
