Since 2018, the RED stewards the archive of the historic artists’ supplies manufacturer Schoenfeld/ LUKAS, which was located in Düsseldorf since its foundation in 1826. After the company’s acquisition by Daler-Rowney Limited in Great Britain, a large number of documents, as well as materials from the laboratory, production and distribution, were given to the RED as a permanent loan.
Under the leadership of the RED (Restaurierungszentrum Düsseldorf) painting conservator Inken Holubec, the collection has been catalogued, inventoried and archived over the past several years. There is more than 5,800 LUKAS items at RED, dating from 1855 to 2018, include historical recipe books, product catalogs, paint materials, correspondence with artists, as well as the laboratory and staff library.
